Reward increased for arrest of driver responsible for hit-and-run St. Louis bicycle accident

The family of a 24-year-old rider seriously injured in a hit-and-run St. Louis bicycle accident has increased the reward for the arrest of the driver responsible.

News 5 reports the family has added $3,000 to the $1,000 CrimeStoppers reward for information leading to an arrest. The September 23 accident happened when a gray Jeep Grand Cherokee reportedly ran a red light and struck the cyclist at the intersection of Lindell and DeBaliviere.

The 24-year-old rider was injured after being struck in front of the history museum on Forest Park while traveling from his home to his job as a cook at The Good Pie.

St. Louis injury lawyers
are frequently asked whether a victim needs an attorney or can attempt to collect damages in a hit-and-run accident. In many ways, it can be even more important to seek the advice of a qualified attorney in such situations.

Waiting for a driver to be arrested is not the best course of action; they frequently flee the scene because they do not have a driver’s license or lack proper insurance. By consulting an attorney as soon as possible after an accident a victim can be in position to collect damages from an at-fault driver if an arrest is made. This may include pursuing a driver’s assets or filing a lawsuit against a driver’s insurance company or other policies in place on other vehicles in the household. In other cases, where an at-fault driver is never located, it may be possible to collect against your own insurance policy.

Men ages 20-40 are frequently injured in bicycle accidents as cycling has become more popular for recreation and fitness, as well as economical transportation. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that 716 riders were killed in 2008 and more than 52,000 were injured.
