Prepare for a safe snowmobile season

| Nov 30, 2020 | Firm News

Snowmobile season will start soon. Winter sports enthusiasts enjoy the sport solo or with friends.

To ensure you make the most of the snow while it lasts, you will want to prepare. Be sure you understand the local laws, keep your snowmobile well maintained, and ride safely.

Know the laws

Although the State of Missouri does not require registration with the Department of Motor Vehicles, there may be county or municipal laws you must follow. Be sure to understand where you are (and are not) allowed to drive your snowmobile. Find out if you need a local permit.

Maintain your snowmobile

Like any motor-operated vehicle, you need to take care of your snowmobile. You should, at a minimum, check your battery, spark plugs, belts, the track and the sliders. You may also want to consider buying insurance to protect your investment.

Ride safely

Be sure that you tell someone what route you plan to take. Better yet, ride with a buddy so you can keep an eye out for each other in case one of you has an accident. Understand the limits of your snowmobile and you as its operator. Carry a first aid kit with you. Most importantly, do not drink and drive. If you do have an accident, get help immediately and keep track of your medical bills and repair costs.

Snowmobiling is a great way to stay active and get outside during the winter months. By preparing for the season, you can be sure fun lasts as long as the snow does.
