A St Louis car accident attorney explains how to prepare a vehicle for safe winter driving.

Winter conditions can impact the way your vehicle handles and operates, especially in freezing weather and/or when the roads are slick. To make sure your vehicle runs as it should in the harsh conditions of winter, here are some things to do now to prepare your car:

  1. Inspect and replace the tires if needed – Make sure you have at least 4/32” of tread for wet conditions and at least 5/32” of tread for snowy conditions.
  2. Have your vehicle’s major systems serviced – Get the following checked out and repaired if needed: the engine, lighting system, brakes, electrical system and exhaust system.
  3. Check and refill your vehicle’s fluids – These include the oil, antifreeze, brake fluid and wiper fluid.
  4. Prep a winter safety kit to keep your car.
